Our Mission for Abled Acres

At Abled Acres, our mission is to empower individuals with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities by building a fully accessible, inclusive community that fosters independence, purpose, and meaningful connection. Through adaptive farming, holistic wellness programs, creative arts, and accessible living spaces, we aim to create a sanctuary where people can heal, express themselves, and thrive—mind, body, and spirit.
This vision was born from the shared passion of three spinal cord injury survivors—Kevin Hajda, Amanda Barnes, and Jim Mayfield—who united their experiences, creativity, and determination to reimagine what’s possible. Together, they’ve combined their dreams of sustainable living, inclusive community-building, and holistic healing into one powerful mission: to create a space where people with disabilities can reconnect with nature, spark creativity, and live with independence and dignity.
At Abled Acres, we’re not just cultivating fresh produce—we’re growing hope, resilience, and a future where everyone belongs.
